A Sea Symphony

Walt Whitman's epic poem "Leaves of Grass" was first, self, published in 1855, 150 years ago. In 1909 Ralph Vaughan Williams completed "A Sea Symphony". He used Whitman's words directly in this composition for orchestra, tenor, suprano and chorus. The sea has been a part of my life for more than 40 years, I understand the feelings underlying these works. The following watercolor paintings are my visual accompanyment to the work of these two artists.

Behold the Sea Itself

Behold the Sea and the Ships

Sailors of All Nations

On the Beach Alone

Chosen by Thee

The Waves

One Flag Above All Nations

Wherefore Unsatisfied Soul?

The Unknown Region
